Johan Grimonprez: Time a Hesitant smile
CINEMATEK is without a doubt the ideal place for Johan Grimonprez to develop his research around different environments and media. Through this exhibition the artist traces the great upheavals that the 7th art went through: the emergence of television, evoked by the figure of Hitchcock, and that of the internet, via vlogs, which are used by the artist and give shape to All Memory is Theft: On the Commons, the central work of the exhibition presented in premiere. Grimonprez’ films will replace the historical films usually shown in the foyer, as a kind of response to the film history that he endeavours to write. Two months of video material if you want to have seen everything.
