Syphilis, the great pretender. A shameful, stigmatising, terror-inducing disease, the “great pox” has amassed numerous medical theories over time, not to mention occasionally some strange beliefs. The exhibition at the ULB features a collection of wax anatomical models from the Museum of Medicine, the history of cures and prevention, and the accounts of artists and writers such as Baudelaire, Nietzsche and Maupassant.
