Grand opening at the Grand-Place for the Brussels Museums Nocturnes

It’s Thursday night, September 19, at 5:00 PM. We’re kicking off the Brussels Museums Nocturnes, 19th edition already! As we never do things half-heartedly, we have chosen the Grand Place as symbolic setting for this season. And sweetie, we’re doing great tonight with free museums, guided tours, music and more. A pretty good start for the 12-week museum marathon – are you a beginners or a pro? – that the Nocturnes promise until December 5th.

Grand-Place, grand (free) guided tours

Brussels’ history is also the history of a colonial past. As the decolonization of our society begins with comprehensive information and an open mind, we’re pleased that the Collectif Mémoire Coloniale et Lutte contre les Discriminations offers guided tours of the Grand-Place district tonight. How many colonial symbols and stories are hidden within the buildings and streets that surround us every day?

Brussels would not be Brussels without its street art! So a quick tour of the coolest wall paintings is more than welcome with another exclusive visit. Same goes for Manneken Pis and our Grand Place, which you probably think you know by heart: only, no.

All these visits are free and in three languages (EN-NL-FR). You can register during the evening at the Museum Market!

A stone’s throw from the Grand Place, three museums are freely accessible for our opening evening. The GardeRobe MannekenPis lets you take a look at the most extravagant wardrobe of the smallest man in Brussels. The Maison du Roi reveals all the secrets of the Grand Place with the exhibition “The Grand Place to be” and a breathtaking virtual experience. At the Fashion & Lace Museum, a sensual encounter takes place between Belgian lingerie designer Carine Gilson and 200 years of Brussels lace.

At Maison du Roi and Fashion & Lace Museum, short free guided tours begin every 20 minutes. Register directly at the museum!

A total of 72 museums are participating to the Nocturnes this year. Pretty difficult to choose from so the museums themselves are of course happy to help. To the sound of the WWA Brass Band, you can stroll among the best of what the 12 Thursday nights of the season have to offer.

Real lace-makers will also give blow you away on the Grand Place. Need a refreshment? The Museum of Belgian Brewers will serve you THE perfect pint. Young and old alike can also use their energy during a game of Bruskwer, a human-scale snakes & ladders in which you conquer one by one all the buildings of the Grand Place.

In short, there is something for everyone. Did we mention it was all free as well?
