The Maurice Carême Museum is located on avenue Nellie Melba in Anderlecht. This house-museum is where the author Maurice Carême (1899 – 1978) lived and plunges you into the intimacy and universe of the famous poet.

EXPO The poet Maurice Carême (1933-1978), best known for his poems inspired by childhood, lived in this little white house where time stood still. Here you will be immersed in the intimacy of his writing. You will discover the world that inspired the poet and the long process from first draft to published book. You can also see works by painters who were his friends, such as Paul Delvaux, Jules Lismonde, and Felix De Boeck.

EXPO With his poetry book Mère suivi de la voix du silence, Maurice Carême captured the readers’ hearts with an ode to maternal love and a cry of sorrow for the loss of the woman who gave birth to him. To mark the 90th anniversary of the book, you will discover unique documents, including a portrait of his mother by Maurice Carême that has never been shown to the public.

GUIDED TOUR The mother figure is a major source of inspiration for poets. Come and discover these poems filled with tenderness, joy and sometimes nostalgia or sadness.
